"Empty Nest"

 

Found this bird nest under a tree this summer and decided to keep it for a painting. I believe it takes at lease a month for birds to build these beautiful little homes and when the babies learn to fly they all leave and as far as I know they fly south for the winter! Hmmm, that sounds like a good idea!

The best time of day is 6am. There is very little traffic and the coffee is fresh at the local cafe. This painting is about that charming small town atmosphere.

I have had this cup for as long as I can remember. I had a set at one time, but well you know, things happen. I painted this same tea cup in another still life earlier this year. Quite the challenge!

The Long Way Home

 

I sometimes take the long way home, off the beaten path, no interstate, back roads only. This is one of those rare early morning drives on highway 9 going north of Hot springs Arkansas. My camera doesn't take good photos of my dark paintings, to much glare off the darkest areas!

Buffalo River Bluffs at Cabins

 

Landscape of the cabins with the bluffs in the background, early one morning just before sunrise, down by the Buffalo River. I will try to make a trip to this spot this winter to get a look at the bluffs that time of the year. They should be spectacular!

"Cottage Garden Cabbage Roses"

 

The Rose I most remember are the roses my mother loved the most. In her garden was a beautiful full rose she called a Cabbage Rose. Now I don't know if that was the correct name but it stuck and this is what it looked like to my young 8 year old eyes.

"MoonLight over Rendezvous Ranch" Original Oil Painting 9" x 12"

The scene is one I have always wanted to stop and paint. Fall is setting in here now and giving the land a tint of gold. I can't get the colors down load to Blog correctly ? so be sure to check it out at DailyPaintworks.com, Least of all the problems I'm having is shooting the darker colors without glare! I really enjoy painting night scenes but they all have to be done in the studio. I have more on the easel of this scene and others in the area.

Float Trip on The Buffalo Landscape Oil on Canvas

The past few weeks I have been moving the studio around and de-cluttering! Unable to get to my paintings, it has been very stressful, but I can tell you it is very difficult to get rid of anything that is not absolutely necessary or beautiful and can't live without it!  But I'm glad it's over and very happy with the new arrangement.

 

This painting is a quiet stop on the river just down from Buffalo City. I have other ideas for paintings from this spot.

I love, love, love, Cannas! They grow to be 7 to 8 feet tall and add bright Reds to the garden. At noon those tropical greens with the reds are very dramatic!

This is the last Hurrah for this beautiful Pink Zinnia in My Garden. The days here have been rainy and cloudy for weeks! The sun broke out for just a few hours one day and this was so bright and pretty for just that time and now it is going to seed. Zinnias are really a bright spot in the old Cottage garden. The light is so bad that my camera did not pick up the subtle shade of dark greens in the background but they are there!

I have been painting a lot of landscapes since the weather was now pleasant enough to be out and about. But, for the past two weeks it has been rainy. In the breaks in the weather the flowers are just popping out and just beautiful this year! The sunflowers were begging to be painted, so this is the first to have it's portrait painted. She is a shy one.

They are fresh picked from the farm house Orchard down the road. The trees here are loaded with fruit, I'm not sure what kind they are, but very good flavor.

They have a few bug bites that I think look more natural, just apples with nothing added, no pesticides, no wax, just good fresh apples!

Cabin on Buffalo River Early morning Original Landscape Oil Painting

One morning on my drive down to the Buffalo River, I took a detour to see what else I could find to paint. We drove down to the end of this gravel road to find the river was shrouded in fog. This cabin is at the Gilbert's place that sits up the hill from the river. It was so quiet you can hear the gentle ripples of the river rolling by.

The weather here today is wonderful for July! Warm days and cool nights. Perfect for fishing the rivers or lakes.

This painting is done with a pallet knife in the rock areas and brush in the water and sky, so it has a good deal of texture.

This is just down stream from the springs. Anyone who have visited this park will recognize the new blue walk bridges. They have done a really nice job on this park, quiet, clean and rustic.
